Bowls Social Sessions: The next Bowls Social Session will be on the green at 2pm on Friday 31st July 2026. Six ends in a friendly competition and a cup of tea. £1 per person. Both social members and full members are welcome. Let me know if you are coming so I can keep you informed of any changes, or just turn up.
SUPPORT YOUR VILLAGE:
Swanton Abbott Bowls Club is a friendly group of locals right on your doorstep. We are a small but thriving club that remain committed to providing sport for the people of Swanton Abbott and the surrounding villages. Bowls is simple to play to a reasonable standard. It is cheap to join (membership is £25 pa). If you prefer to ease in gently, there is a social membership at £15 pa which will introduce you to the game without the pressure of competition. We will guide you through the basics so you can quickly enjoy the game. You can commit as much time as you want- some play socially once a week in the season (May-August) while others like to play competitively several times a week. In addition there are various social events throughout the year including roll-ups, BBQs, Bingo and quizzes, as well as the Annual charity event in July. Our youngest members are in their 20’s, the oldest in their 80’s- whether you are a total beginner or experienced bowler, you will be welcome here!

Charity Pairs
A message from Linda re the Charity Pairs day:
Just wanted to say a huge thank you to all those who supported our Tournament yesterday in aid of East Anglian Children’s Hospice whether playing bowls and/or supporting the ‘side attractions’. The total sum raised was £645 which will be shared equally.
In addition I will carry forward the monies we took on the cuddly toy, £17, and continue to sell tickets at future fundraising events that we have coming up in October and November with the aim of raising £50 in total, all of this will go to EACH. I’m very grateful to Barbara Meeks who supplied the toy for a fundraising event.
It was great to see many club members and regulars at the tournament and nice to see some new faces, all of whom told me they’d had a great afternoon and would like to come back another year if we have one. They enjoyed the spirit in which the games were played and the general atmosphere and organisation. So thank you for those nice comments. It was also good to have spectators.
Special thanks to Sue Read’s family for continuing to support the event which was started back in 2007, after her untimely death, to remember her and to raise monies for Charity. It was always intended as a ‘fun’ day.
We thank Lee, Lyndsey, Margaret and Tricia and Sue Lee for their donations, some of which was used for the winners and runner up prizes. Well done to our winners, Claire and Sue, and runner up, Mark and Will.
Thanks for anyone who donated prizes for the tombola, thanks to Ian & Judy for organising and running, the raffle and competitions. Thanks to my helpers running the competitions etc. A big thank you to those members who supplied the food etc for the refreshments, those that helped prepare the green and surrounds and our car park attendant. I know several of you like to get to Swanton early as we have limited parking but we had the support of 3 local residents who allowed us to park in their yards.
I hope I’ve covered everything and haven’t missed anyone out! Apologies if I have.
Once again thank you for the support and enjoy the rest of the outdoor bowling season.
